ABOUT

Here at the Brown chapter of Synapse, we are driven by the goal of providing optimal support to those who have suffered from various brain injuries. We wish to do our part in raising awareness of the many struggles that result from head trauma, by providing both affected and unaffected individuals with resources to learn from. We are continuously working towards improving the care for brain injury through collaboration with both physicians, and community partners. Together we can all provide support to those recovering.

PEER SUPPORT GROUP

Brown Synapse's main goal is to alleviate the stresses of recovering from a brain injury. For this reason, we provide support groups that are completely confidential and led by trained student moderators.

Support Group

WHY?

We wish to support all individuals with brain injuries in the community. These meetings provide people with resources and advice relating to various brain injuries and the process towards recovery, specifically in an intensive academic environment. They allow people to connect and learn from each other, sharing experiences and advice, giving members a sense of community and togetherness.

WHERE?

Our meetings are typically held in the J. Walter Wilson building, in room 201. Oftentimes we will invite guest speakers to lead a discussion at these meetings, which may change the location. If this happens, we will be sure to let you know!

WHEN?

Our support group meetings happen twice a month, typically on Saturdays. You can always look at our calendar to see all of our events, including when these group meetings will happen! But for the next month, you can expect to see us from 1pm to 2:30pm on Saturday, September 8th and Saturday, September 22nd.

Along with the peer support group, we also offer a buddy system for those who have recently suffered from any sort of brain injury. This mentor can act as a source for advice and support both during and after ones recovery. Please reach out to us if you are interested in being a buddy, or in being paired with one!
